Feeling a little uneasy about where your career is heading? You’re not alone. According to LinkedIn’s annual Jobs on the Rise list, the fastest-growing roles over the past three years sit firmly in AI. Job titles like AI Engineer and Machine Learning Researcher are climbing fast. For some, that feels exciting. For others, it can feel intimidating, overwhelming or simply “not for me”.
But here’s the important bit: the future of work isn’t just for hardcore techies. And that’s exactly where Heather Black comes in. Heather is the founder and CEO of Supermums, an award-winning UK-based recruitment company that helps women, particularly mothers and career returners, move into meaningful, well-paid work in tech.
She’s also a career coach, tech consultant and award-winning entrepreneur who has spent her working life helping people access opportunities that work around real life, not in spite of it. She’s an impressive egg.

Before launching Supermums, Heather ran a coaching and training business supporting young people into employment and entrepreneurship. When major funding changes hit, while planning to start a family, she found herself at a crossroads many women recognise. Rather than stepping back, Heather retrained in tech and built a flexible, high-earning career as a Salesforce consultant. That career change and newfound confidence became the spark for Supermums, which she founded in 2016. Since then, Supermums has helped over 2,000 women retrain, upskill and progress into technology roles, while also tackling two big challenges at once: closing the gender gap in tech and addressing the growing digital skills shortage.
We caught up with Heather to hear her story, thoughts on what’s changing in work today and to get the inside scoop on her free masterclass for women who are curious about AI.
The job market feels like it is changing fast. Why should we be paying attention?
"There’s no sugar-coating it,” Heather says. “The job market is changing quickly. Automation and AI are reshaping many traditional roles.”
But she’s quick to add that this isn’t just a story about jobs disappearing.
“Millions of new roles are being created in AI and related areas. Many of them don’t require deep technical skills to start with. What really matters is understanding where the opportunities are and how to access them."

Tell us about you. Are you a mum, an entrepreneur, or both?
“I’m both. I’m a single parent and mum of two young girls and an entrepreneur, and I lead Supermums as its CEO. My expertise sits at the intersection of career transition, technology skills, and workforce transformation. I specialise in helping women retrain into in-demand tech and AI roles through a blend of practical skills training, coaching, and employability support. My background spans economic development, career coaching and hands-on tech consultancy.”
How has your personal journey influenced your work?
“My journey has made me very pragmatic. I don’t talk about AI or tech in abstract terms. I focus on real jobs, real skills and real outcomes. I’ve lived the challenge of needing flexibility, confidence and clarity when changing direction. Everything we do at Supermums is designed to remove uncertainty and show women a realistic, achievable route into high-growth tech roles. That’s exactly the lens I bring to everything we offer - and to our upcoming masterclasses.”

How does Supermums help women?
“We help women retrain into in-demand tech and AI-related roles. We also combine practical skills training with coaching and employability support. We focus on outcomes and want women to feel confident that this is possible for them.”
You’re running a free event called Your Future Career in AI. Why did you create it?
“There’s a lot of noise around AI, but not enough clear, honest information,” Heather says. “Your Future Career in AI is a live free online masterclass which will simplify things. It’s taking place next Wednesday 21st January 2026 at 12pm and will give women a straightforward overview of what a career in AI actually looks like today. We will talk about where the opportunities are and how women can position themselves to take advantage of them. AI job roles are currently ranked as the number one and number two fastest-growing role on LinkedIn. Our Masterclass gives you insight on how to access those opportunities.”
Who it is for and who should sign up?
“This event is for women who are curious about AI,” Heather says. “That might be career-switchers, returners, or professionals who want to future-proof their skills.”
“What makes it different? First, it’s practical, not theoretical. We focus on real AI roles, real products, and real skills employers and consultancies are hiring for right now.”
“Second, it addresses the talent gap directly. AI demand is growing at 30%+ CAGR, while talent supply is falling behind. We explain how this creates opportunity, especially through consultancies and partner ecosystems.”
“And third, It’s built by a talent provider, not just a trainer. Supermums works directly with global employers and understands what they actually need from AI-skilled professionals.”

What will attendees take away?
"By the end of the session, you will have..."
- A clear understanding of AI and tech roles that exist today
- Insight into transferable skills you may already have
