Looking to straighten your teeth and boost your smile? You’re in the right place. Edinburgh Orthodontics is Scotland’s largest specialist orthodontic practice, based in Tollcross on Gilmore Place. Their team of skilled orthodontists are all dentists who’ve taken on three years of specialist orthodontic training and earned qualifications with the Royal College Of Surgeons. They’re all GDC-registered specialists and members of the British Orthodontic Society.

But who’s behind the smiles? Let’s meet a few of the team: Keila, Robbie and Guilia.
Keila Lopes, Dentist Specialising in Orthodontics
Originally from Brazil, Keila is a dentist with a passion for Orthodontics. After graduating in dentistry in 1995, she initially worked in radiology but soon found her calling in orthodontics, beginning her specialist training in 1999 and becoming a specialist in 2005. She joined Edinburgh Orthodontics for the amazing opportunity it offered, and she’s never looked back.
"Transforming smiles has always been my passion. There’s nothing like the joy on a patient’s face when they see their new smile for the first time," Keila shares.
Top Tip: Brush your teeth well, avoid sugary foods, and keep smiling!
Fun fact: I’m passionate about natural medicine and trained in Homeopathy.
Dr Robbie Lawson, Founding Partner and Specialist Orthodontist
Robbie founded Edinburgh Orthodontics 25 years ago and has been a driving force ever since. Hailing from Largs on the Clyde Coast, he studied and worked in Dundee, Glasgow, Cardiff and Canterbury before making Edinburgh his home.
"Dentistry runs in the family," Robbie explains. "My father was a General Dentist and motivated me into the field. I worked with a number of inspirational orthodontists who showed me that the specialty has a wonderful balance of technical skills, strategy and patient motivation. A great smile can be life-changing for people.”
Top Tip: Stay committed to your treatment. Keep your teeth and braces clean, follow the diet advice and wear all the things we ask you to, especially the retainers!
Fun fact: When I’m not working, I try to get on the water, sailing, windsurfing or surfing (badly).
Giulia Ragazzini, Specialist Orthodontist
Giulia, originally from Italy, moved to Edinburgh in 2014 intending to stay for six months. But life had other plans. She met her South African husband, started a family, and made Edinburgh her home.
"I realised pretty quickly that general dentistry wasn’t for me," Giulia shares. "After graduating, I spent a year working as a general dentist and even volunteered in a small village in Rwanda, where most of my days were spent extracting teeth. That’s when I decided to focus on orthodontics. I trained in Sardinia, and being surrounded by the beach and sea helped me discover my love for braces."
These days, I love treating young patients. Their growth stage offers so much potential and amazing transformations. It’s incredible to see the results."
Top Tip: Avoid fizzy drinks during orthodontic treatment.
Fun fact: I am a typical Italian. So, I don’t like pineapple on pizza, I like pasta al dente and I speak with my hands. Surprisingly, I prefer tea to coffee!
