Make Your Money Work Harder: Pensions, investing and what women need to know now
Thursday 8 October | 12pm–1pm | Online
Women are still reaching retirement with significantly less than men.
Career breaks, part-time work and years spent juggling different priorities all play a part.
But there’s another problem too: many of us simply haven’t been given the confidence or knowledge to properly understand our pensions, start investing or make informed decisions about our money.
Over the past year, we’ve been working with Melville Independent Finance to shine a light on some of these issues. Our own research has uncovered uncertainty around everything from pensions sitting with previous employers to knowing whether we’re saving enough—and whether our money could be working harder elsewhere.
This practical online session is about changing that.
We’re bringing together members of the Melville team, James Hassall Marlow and Alex Bruce to cut through the jargon, explain what’s happening in the financial world and help you feel more informed about your future.
During the session, we’ll look at:
Tidying up your pension
How to find pensions from previous jobs, understand what you have and consider whether bringing different pension pots together could be right for you.
Whether you have enough to retire
What “enough” might look like, how to understand whether you’re on track and the steps you can consider if you’ve started late or taken time away from work.
Making your money work harder
An introduction to investing, the different options available and how investments differ from cash savings and pensions. We’ll also explore risk, timescales and how to start thinking about where your next £ should go.
What’s changing
From April 2027, most unused pension funds and pension death benefits will be brought into the value of an estate for Inheritance Tax. We’ll explain what is changing, who may be affected and why it’s worth reviewing your plans.
Your questions answered
There will be plenty of time to put your questions directly to the Melville team, including those you may have felt unsure - or embarrassed - to ask before.
Whether you have several pensions, no pension at all, money sitting in savings or an interest in investing but no idea where to begin, this session will give you a clearer understanding of where you are and what to think about next.
You’ll leave better informed, more confident and ready to take a closer look at your money.
